Pakistani Bloggers can access and use BLOGSPOT again – Government lifts the ban

Pakistani lifts the ban on blogspot

Yes, after months of a ban which had Pakistani bloggers protesting and sending emails to the the authorities, blogspot.com is back (at least for now). You can start blogging on your blogspot.com blog and if you are one of those who are too lazy to blog (like me) but love to read different blogs then worry not, you can check your favorite blogs once more!

Here is hoping that the stupid Pakistani Telecom Authorities do not ban the blogspot again and also that the lifting of the ban is NOT by mistake (yeah well, you never know!).

Blogspot still banned in Pakistan

January 7, 2007

Blogspot-banned-pakistan

When a Danish newspaper published Prophet Mohammad’s (PEACE BE UPONG HIM) caricatures, the whole Muslim world reacted and the cause was just. It was a cruel act by the person who did this, the newspaper that published the cartoons, the Danish government which did not apologize for this and thousands of people who posted those images on their blogs, websites and circulated them via emails only to hurt the muslims around the globe in the name of freedom of expression which does not allow you to talk about Holocaust (which btw, I believe didn’t even happen… ever), to question Bush and American Government’s secret projects and intentions, to question the number of nukes Israel and America has, to question the atomic attacks carried by the Americans in cities of Japan where only civilians lived… I can keep going on and on and the list won’t end.

Pakistani government also protested this act but our beloved people in the Ministry of Science and Technology, PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority), basically the government of Pakistan decided to BAN the blogspot why? Because you could find some of those caricatures in some of the blogs hosted on blogspot. Here is where you can read more about what happened.

Now I understand that by using proxy and other channels you can still access blogspot which makes the people who decided to blog these sites even more stupid but it has become a little problem for all the people who wanted to communicate and confron the people that posted those images on their blogs. How stupid is that?! PTA actually wants us all to act like a bunch of pigeons who’d close their eyers everytime something is thrown at them!? What the heck is that about? Some elements in the west can abuse the freedom of speech and act like complete idios and nazzis but our beloved PTA won’t let us defend our religion, our beliefs and won’t let us spread OUR word out there by killing OUR freedom of speech!? How they loth and make us loth with them!

Not just this but I believe they have also cut the source of income of so many people who used to earn some $$$ via google adsense programs that you can run on blogspot. The government does not help any of us here, they do not support us in any possible way, there is no welfare system here which is pretty damn pathetic — but to make things worse they even got the guts to kill the chances of so many people trying to support themselves. They are actually pissing the educated, civilized and internet savvy people surviving in a country which scores low when it comes to the literacy ratio while they should actually use the internet ready people to spread education, awareness, gather international support for the local poors and the uneducated people, market the country in the global village by being a part of the better, more learned and moderate community which condemns acts of blasphemy and other acts which make the world a bit more dangerous place to live in.

Shame on you Pakistan Telecommunications Authority, shame on you Government of Pakistan. You hold us back… way back!

BinaryChaos topping the search engines!

December 9, 2006

It’s kinda funny to see search engines behave so abnormally. We recently launched a site that is about funny myspace images, videos, jokes and puzzles. We have had the URL www.binarychaos.org registered for about 5 years. Well not “we” but my partner Sabaina had this domain with her for a long time. For a couple of years, she maintained it has a her personal website and an online space to showcase some of her earlier work and y’know to just play around and stuff. Recently, the site had become almost inactive and she had no time to do something about it so we decided to make a site which would let myspace users to find and use funny images, clean jokes, videos and puzzles. The name was perfect ‘Binary Chaos’ so it all made sense. Anyway, a few days after we launched the site and we had only started marketing it…. we observed a few visitors from search engines like Yahoo and Google!

I mean I was thinking that I’ll have to optimize the site even more and do some offline optimization too (link building, marketing, adding unique content etc etc) but there we are, right on the top (well… almost) and we are enjoying some traffic from the site that we justtt launched a couple of weeks ago.

What I expect is that the Ageing has played a major issue here. If you got a domain which is about 3-4 years old and has no PR then believe me, it’s a keeper and if you don’t want it. I would very much like to have it :)

By the way our site is ranking well on Yahoo and Google against different keywords. Some of them are funny myspace images, jokes for myspace, clean jokes and pictures, myspace puzzels, funny clean videos and a lot more.

Oh and one more thing… I just realized that WordPress is slow! It’s slower than blogspot! They should do something about it and make the dashboard load fast!

GoDaddy and the rain

December 4, 2006

We recently bought a delux plan of godaddy using an american credit card (our credit cards were not working). After registering and buying the delux hosting account (100gb space and 1000 gb transfer blah blah) we found out that the reason that our credit cards were not working was because godaddy doesn’t accept any transactions from a number of countries and Pakistan is one of them.

Ok so I do realize why they are doing it but the most stupid part was when I read that we might not be able to access godaddy accounts in the future because many of the Pakistani IP addresses are blocked on GodDaddy. This is extremely lame and frustrating! Anyway, we got in touch with their support team and they told us that we CAN access the servers as Pakistan is not in the list of the countries with which GoDaddy can not do business.

hxxp://help.godaddy.com/article.php?article_id=219&topic_id=&&

(remove the hxxp and put in http if you want to visit their site. I don’t want to give them a backlink from this blog!)

You can order Web hosting even though you don’t live in the United States, unless you live in one of the countries listed below.

Countries whose governments have been declared sponsors of international terrorism by the United States Department of State (more info):

Cuba
Iran
Iraq
Libya
North Korea
Sudan
Syria
We also block the following countries from purchasing our services due to fraud:

Bulgaria
China (including Hong Kong)
Indonesia
Malaysia
Pakistan
Philippines
Singapore
Vietnam

It’s pretty lame to see such a big company have such pathetic policies.

Anyways, what has me all happy is the fact that it’s raining like crazy here in Karachi. It’s winter and it hardly ever rains this hard in winter now. No thanks to the rapid growth of population and industrial pollution in Karachi. Ah well, it’s raining here finally. Apparently, everybody feels pretty cold but I don’t :s Though I am suffering with cold, I don’t feel cold. Hehehe pretty ironic and not so enjoyable.
